Preliminary Task

Our film idea

I am working on a film which we have called Viktim which will fall into the horror genre. I am working on this with Jaymie Ebrada and Mark Taylor.

Plot:
The story begins with a family at a graveyard mourning a loss of someone close to them. They all seem to be upset by the events except a girl stood at the back. We then go foward in time to the same girl at the party we do this by zooming in on her eye then zooming back out to change the scene. We then find ourselves at a party with the same girl she then talks to another girl and says  ' its been two years since he passed away ' then the girl offers to take her home. The two girls

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product ?

We used these cameras to filmboth are preliminary task and the opening 2 mins of Victim. The camera itself was very useful in it being portable and easy to use. We found that the best thing to do whilst filming with these was to run over the take by about 3 seconds to avoind the clicking sound from stopping the scene. The tripod was very helpful as it was sturdy, easily adjustable and was also very simple to attach the camera too. The legs were easy to use meaning we could adjust the positioning of the camera with realtive ease and control.

We used windows movie maker to edit and create our film. We only began to use this software after we found it difficult to do waht we wanted too on premiere elements, also with the adobe sofware our film kept crashing which obviously made it diffucult. However we had none of these issues with movie maker as it was all simple and easy to use.

How did you attract/address your audience ?

To find our target audience we sent out a questionaire around to our friends in order to find out which films are target audience enjoys. A vast majority of people enjoyed horrors and from that we decided that we would make a horror film. I looked into some horror film openings and found that in most opening scenes they introduce the main charactor and villain in order to set up the whole film.

To attract the audience we start of with the 2 girls running from the mysterious figure gripping them and building tension. Our opening is very much similar to that of A Nightmare On Elm Street where the girl runs and almost gets caught but wakes up just in time and realises its only a dream. This was a good horror opening so uded it order to attract and draw in the audience from an early stage.

In this version of the opening 2 mins we have added notes onto the end to expalin how we attracted our audience.

 This would be our typical audience member for this kind of horror film. As they are around the same age as myself it can be easily realted to in terms of what they want from a film e.g less talking more action. We have chosen the target gender as male as even though females might still want to see the film we felt that the males would be more willing to watch horror films. We have also chosen a very stereotypical look onto a typical horror fan with a more gothic look being shown. The people that would enjoy this film would be those who would have viewed other horrors such as blair witch project and paranormal activity as there in for as much as fright in them as there are in victim. We have looked into the horror actors and decided that drew barrymore for her role in scream would be one of the people horror fans would reccomend for her performance. She also can bring about similar comparisons to our main actor Amelia Woodhouse.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ? (i.e.of film opening)

This is our screen title. As you can see we have gone for the black backround with the same colour fiont inside the red. The style of red builds the impression of blood showing that its a horror film. However both colours help to build an impression of darkness and fear.

We have used this as the productuiomn company opening titles as they use the same dark colours to build fear, darkness and suspense

This is when you see the two main characters introduced ( amelia and jasmine) you see them just as there walking out the door and you can clearly see that amelias character is visibly upset. This builds the instant impression of the two characters that amelia is troubled and that jasmine is caring friend on hand to help. You can also see in the bottom left of the picture that the credits are rolling through on the side in a white clear font so it is clearly visible for the audience.

This establishing shot shows that the setting is in a street showing that they feel they are safe as many people are around them although little do they know that they are actually alone. The use of the establishing shot is to show the audience the main location for the film so the audience feels in the film.

This shows the costumes and props we have used for the opening 2 mins. As you can see the villain in the background as in a black costume to strike fear and suspense into the audience. the villain is also holding a baseball bat showing the intimidation that this charactor portrays. The girls are just in normal clothes as they would have just been walking homeon a regular day until this happened.




As our film had no budget whatsoever we didnt have any special effects but this doesnt mean that the film lacks anything as it gives it a more realistic feel which is taken up in many horror films such as blair witch project. They do this to draw you into the filmwheras if you have big special effects you can sometimes be draawn away from reality.

Victim opening sequence

This is the better edited version of the opening. However some extra changes may have to be made as in some parts of the film its too dark.

This is the scene from our project which sees the 2 main charactor's (amelia and jasmine) leaving the house due to something upsetting ameila. As the girls are walking down the road jasmine begins to question ameliaon whats wrong but receives no response. A bit furthur down the road they decide to take a short cut down a side road and amelia sees a figure hidden behind a tree. The figure then shows themselves and Amelia realises andt hey both run away from the charactor. You then see Amelia wake up as it was all a nightmare looking shocked and shaken about the whole situation

sound research

As we are planning on doing a horror film the sound is extremly important and is seen as one of the vital componants in a horror film. For example you would want stuff like hearbeats to build tension and music like playing the organ and building up the speed to build tension. Silence would also need to be used effectivley to build tension, suspense and anxiety.

This sound in perticular can raise a lot ot tension, for example in a chase scene if it built from a soft and low platfrom then rose and rose it would create an uneven atmosphere (a cliche of a horror film) and make the audiences hearts race.

The new script

Opening.
Jasmine grabs Amelia's hand and they slowly make their way out the door. Down the road the conversation is dry and Jasmine trys to make conversation.

Jasmine- So hows your family?
(No responce.)
- id hate to think what your going through, i mean u were so close to your brother and for him to just...

(A tear falls from girls eye. Her friend notices and  stops, grabs her and holds her tight.)

Jasmine-Im so sorry, i really am but if u talk about it itll help...i think (notices her friend shaking)
Babe whats up??


She turns around to see girl looking up the road. Amelia sees a figure standing there watching them, scared she says "I think we should go this way" and decide to take a short cut. As they do they hear sounds of fast footsteps behind them which are getting quicker and quicker. They both run as the man speeds up and begins to run.
Amelia- Oh my god hes following us!
Jasmine- Who....(she looks behind her to see the masked man) oh my god....

FADE TO BLACK - "VICTIM" TITLE SCENE.

Scene 2.

The scene fades in and Amelia is sleeping. What happened before had been a reocurring dream. She wakes up and picks up her phone. She sends a message to jasmine saying "I had the same dream again and somehow i think its related to my brothers accident..wanna meet up later?"

With that she changes her clothes and leaves and as she does a figures is seen watching her.
Heartbeat should be played as soon as the figure is noticable to the audience to raise questions and to change the atmosphere.

unforeseen circumstances

due to unforeseen circumstances we have been forced into changing the script slightly from the original by taking out one scene and adding another. I will post the latest script and storyboard in the coming days.

viktim: actors

In our 3minute clip we have chosen two students from our Drama department to play our main characters; even though our final piece is only 2 minutes we want every second to seem real and make our target audince feel that there watching a professional film.


Amelia Woodhouse.

Amelia will play our lead role as Girl who has just lost her brother and hasn't felt the same since, fragile and all alone she finds that all is not what it seems.

Name: Amelia Woodhouse
Age: 17
Acting Experience: Gcse drama grade A. Various plays outside of school and in school. Amelia is well known for her knack for acting out pshycos and we can imagine her acting frightened which were looking foward too.






Jasmine Williams.

Jasmine is playing Girl 2, a very good friend who trys to help Girl cope with the loss of her brother, she takes alot of knock backs but still carrys on. during the clip she finds out that being helpful and careing will be her undoing.

Name: Jasmine Williams.

Age: 17

Acting Experience: Gcse drama grade B. Various small parts in school performances. For her final drama piece at gcse she played a mother who was being bullied by her husband in a horror type performance, she will be perfect for the role espeacially in a few chasing scenes. 

first scene location

We have selected the school field as one of our film locations as it fits well with the story line. This location is also easy to use; there are few restrictions for us to film there. We’ve already started filming in this location - the scene features a girl grieving for her late brother.

costume for evil character

A black coat will be worn by the villian as it is easy to get hold and shows the darkness of the charector. The coat will also bring a spooky and intimidating feel to the character.
